It is used to formulate flavors and also used as a solvent for cellulose esters, cellulose ethers, resins, etc.

Mainly used in the preparation of blackcurrant, strawberry, cherry, banana, grape and other fruit flavors. The amount used in gum is 59mg/kg; 10mg/kg in baked goods; 9.0mg/kg in candy; 2.8mg/kg in soft drinks; 2.8mg/kg in cold drinks.

Also used as flavor for tobacco and wine.
