Ethyl caproate is approved by the FDA for food use (as a flavoring agent in desserts and beverages) without hazard to public health.

It is used to prepare edible and tobacco flavors

It is commonly used in the preparation of fruit flavors such as bananas, apples, pineapples and wine flavors such as brandy and white wine. The dosage is according to normal production needs, generally 32mg/kg in chewing gum; 18mg/kg in cold drinks; 12mg/kg in candy and baked goods kg; 7mg/kg in soft drinks

This product is also used as a solvent and organic synthesis intermediate

Ethyl Caproate is used to synthesize novel EP2/EP4 dual agonist of γ-lactam prostaglandin E1 analogs. 

It is also used as a chemical reagent in the synthesis of PPARα antagonists in the treatment of metabolic diseases.
