The European Council has also included it in the list of artificial flavors that can be used in food and are harmless to human health.Hexyl Acetate is a flavouring agent due to its fruity odor and it is naturally present in many fruits and alcoholic beverages.

Hexyl acetate is mainly used to prepare fruit flavors such as apples and pears.

It is also used as a solvent for resins, polymers, fats and oils and as a paint additive to improve its dispersion on a surface
